Moving around in Singapore

Singapore being a small island countryhas a well established transport network.Moving around country is very convenient with many options. You can travel by train, public bus or taxi, or the combination.

Travel by train is more recommended as it can avoid traffic, and the train links to all major shopping area and the Central Business District. The train system in Singapore is called Mass Rapid Transit or MFT. It links the north, east, south, west of the country, with north-east line added and a ring line is under construction. The train can also bring you to the Singapore Changi International Airport. You can also check out the prices for your journey from the online fares site. Depends on the distance of the journey, in most cases the fares should be within S$2 (as of Year 2008 fares)

Taxi fares are reasonably priced compared to many countries. All taxi charges are based on the meter. Depending on the different companies, there are slight variation on the meter pricing. In general the starting meter is at S$2.80 to S$3.00 (as of 2009). Every subsequent KM, the charges is about $0.20. Getting a taxi in Singapore can be quite challenging as a lot of times you can see the taxi having the "On Call" sign turn on, or they are changing shift. Remember to note down the Taxi Number and the driver's name. The driver's identity is displayed in the taxi.
