Canadian Rockies - The Maligne Canyon

The Maligne Canyon is formed by the water of the Maligne River. It is believed to have taken form some 8,000 years ago, when the glacier melted to form the Maligne River.

The Maligne Canyon is located in the Jasper National Park of the Canadian Rockies. It is one of the most spectacular gorges in Canada, with limestone wall standing more than 100 meters. The water from the Maligne River, running and cut into the limestone beds, forming layers of steps and cracks and hence the canyon. The canyon is deep but many of the gaps are quite narrow. However, the waterfalls are still spectacular.

There are 6 bridges running across the Maligne Canyon hiking trail. At the second bridge, the water is at its deepest. You can hardly hear the water running sound. The third bridge is the best spot for photo taking. The waterfall at this third bridge has two different view. You must cross over the bridge to see the best of the waterfall. After the third bridge and terrain is relatively more gentle and along the path you can see the lake view. The fifth bridge is a small hanging bridge. At this spot the canyon gap is about 20 meter wide. No longer the narrow gap as before.
